The capacity there’s no hiding that mass the Ultraviolette F77 Recon now weighs nearly 50 kilos more than it did in 2019 but Ultraviolette wanted us to start our day by seeing that the Ultraviolette F77 Recon is still a sharp and sporty motorcycle despite all the weight and that’s why we started off with a few fast laps around the go-kart track 207 kilos is a lot but to the Ultraviolette F77 Recon credit it doesn’t feel anywhere close to that heavy once.

It’s moving out here on the go-kart track I never once felt like this bike was too heavy for this environment yes it’s no longer a lightweight motorcycle but it still has a good sense of agility and balance the front end still has plenty of feel and these new mrf tires they have plenty of grip overall it’s still a lot of fun to ride here and the only real sign of the weight was that after a few hard laps the front brake levers start to get a little soft it wasn’t a problem it wasn’t alarming.

But that was the first sign however most customers aren’t really going to be that demanding of the brakes out in the real world a go-kart track is good fun but most customers will spend their time riding on the street so we moved out of the track and into nandi Hills one of the more popular riding roads around Bengaluru to see what the Ultraviolette F77 Recon is like the Ultraviolette F77 Recon motor has been operated and it now produces 38.9 horsepower and 95 newton meters of torque both .

Those figures are bigger than they used to be but remember this Spike now has to pull a lot more weight when you look at the specifications on paper paid second zero to 100 top speed of about 150 that’s around 250 to 300 CC levels of performance but when you ride this bike it’s very unique there’s nothing out there that has that linear talk driven surge of acceleration what you do need to get used to is that there’s nothing for your left limbs to do.

There is no clutch lever and there is no gear lever and that does feel quite freaky the first time you ride this bike but then again we humans have a very adaptable brain and it won’t take long for you to get used to that the Ultraviolette F77 Recon comes with three riding modes Glide combat and Ballistic.

The bike feels usably quick even in the bass mode where it can cross 80 kilometers per hour and climb inclines without stress combat mode unlocks access to about 70 percent of the performance while ballistic gives you everything the bike has to offer thankfully ultraviolet has now updated The software.

So you can now use ballistic mode until the battery has just 30 charge remaining we were writing the top Recon model which has a bigger battery and a more powerful motor and the company claims an 8 second zero to 100 time with a top speed of just under 150 kilometers per hour no matter what mode you use the feel and connection from the accelerator is very natural.

There isn’t much of a learning curve if this is your first TV after years of riding a petrol motorcycle foreign getting used to was that with all that talk there’s almost always a little more acceleration than I was expecting while coming out of a corner and that definitely UPS the excitement Factor.

The sound is also quite interesting and the Ultraviolette F77 Recon produces a futuristic mix of electric motor wine along with the noise from the chain drive there are three levels of regenerative braking and I found the strongest mode to be the most enjoyable because it feels natural and it assists the brakes in slowing the bike down like at the go-kart track.

The brakes work decently well but a little more power would be welcome when you start riding aggressively especially in the Hills thankfully unlike most TVs in the market the Ultraviolette F77 Recon gets dual Channel ABS as standard when we last rode the Ultraviolette F77 Recon it had a 4.3 kilowatt hour battery that was split into three different packs.

That could be removed from the side that was a clever design feature but then the company decided that this bike deserves a whole lot more so during the course of the pandemic they completely redesigned things and it now has a 10.3 kilowatt hour battery pack.

Which is by far the biggest that you can get on any two wheeler in the country today they had to make a small sacrifice though and that’s the fact that this battery is now a fixed unit and you can’t take it out of the bike so it might be a fixed battery now but this is still the largest of any Indian two wheeler EV buy a big margin in fact even the base Ultraviolette F77 Recon has a bigger battery than any other two wheeler EV in India at the moment.

These are the range numbers that ultraviolet claims and based on our limited experience with the bike you should be able to easily get over 200 kilometers of range on the Ultraviolette F77 Recon model even with a bit of quick riding thrown in everyone wants more and more and more range from their EVs.

UltraViolet has listened but that comes with a cost to help the motorcycle cope with all the added weight the chassis had to be completely redesigned and strengthened in pretty much every area now we’ve already established that the Ultraviolette F77 Recon hides its weight superbly well once it’s on the move but you will feel every one of those kilos at parking speeds it’s a pain to move the bike forward and backwards especially if the motor is on.

This is the first EV where I’ve voluntarily and regularly used the reverse parking assist foreign concerns when I found out how much weight ultraviolet added to this motorcycle was that they would have to firm up the suspension significantly for it to cope they have done that but to their credit they’ve also managed to find a pretty decent ride quality setup now if you hit a really big pothole you will feel the bulk in mass of this motorcycle but through smaller and more medium-sized bumps.

The suspension actually copes quite well in fact it’s actually this firm seat and the sporty riding position that plays a bigger role when it comes to the comfort factor the seat itself is flat and nicely shaped but the padding is firm and you will start to feel that after some time the same goes for the riding position it’s a clear sports bike riding position but it’s nicely balanced and neither your upper body nor your lower body are at extreme angles still this is a properly sporty position.

You will feel a strain of it after an hour or so of riding the good news is that the clip-on handlebars are nice and wide and the turning radius isn’t bad either so maneuverability is no issue by now it’s become fairly clear that this is not just a competent motorcycle but also a really fun one to ride.

But I don’t think that’s enough to Temp people away from all those sporty petrol bikes that cost a whole lot less than this no this motorcycle is going to be aimed at someone who wants to stand out someone who wants to be different from the rest and when you look at the Ultraviolette F77 Recon In the Flesh you’ll realize that it does exactly that the Ultraviolette F77 Recon looks like nothing else.

Because it has a side profile of a Fed motorcycle in the face of a naked street bike those funky fog shots add to the visual drama and the bike also has a great looking set of wheels that are completely unique those small fins that stick out of the sides aren’t just aesthetic either and they help direct cool air towards the electric motor they’re also designed to help protect the Bodywork in case the bike falls over.

The company provides an internal set of Crash protection bars as standard technology wise the Ultraviolette F77 Recon is fully loaded with a 5-inch TFT display auto on off headlamps navigation with real-time assists geofencing and a whole lot more there’s even a lockdown mode in case your bike gets stolen these connected features are powered by a built-in 4G sim.

Ultraviolette says that there will be no subscription charges quality wise this is easily the best of the few electric motorcycles on sale in India today and most of the body panels look good and fit well however some Plastics still need to improve.

These motorcycles come with a big price tag foreign there is no getting on the fact that this is a very expensive motorcycle and that number hurts when you look at it on paper but Ultraviolette has a different point of view they tell you that if you study the overall costs of living with this motorcycle versus a similarly sporty petrol motorcycle the costs actually swing in the Ultraviolette F77 Recon favor over the long term as has become the reality with EV’S of the moment.

The buy-in cost is considerably higher but that gets offset by lower running costs so if you intend on keeping the bike for a long term period the numbers could work out in your favor and that means that buying the Ultraviolette F77 Recon isn’t so much a matter of whether it’s worth the money because the bigger question is whether it makes sense three years ago when we wrote the ultraviolet prototype I ended that story saying that.

If you want to buy this motorcycle you had to be okay with being an early adopter and that means being okay with sacrificing a few things you would expect from a motorcycle and being okay with spending more money than you would expect to spend on a motorcycle funny enough three years later that story really hasn’t changed but the bike has with this bigger battery it now has a serious genuine 200 plus kilometers of range and that makes the Ultraviolette F77 Recon more than just an urban motorcycle.

This is enough to go out for those fun weekend rides as well of course if you want to go touring on this bike that’s going to take some serious commitment but as a fun and completely unique addition to your garage there’s really nothing else like the Ultraviolette F77 Recon.
