Hello friends, today we are going to compare two cars. MG Comet Ev vs Tata Tiago EV 2024. The radically styled mg Comet it’s a two-door four-seater electric price between 8 and 10 lakh Rupees what’s also priced between 8 and 10 lakh Rupees is the Tata Tiago EV now right from the face of it this one seems like a sensible buy but today we’re gonna put these two cars together to find out whether.
this one is a convincing option for you being a bond electric EV the comet’s design isn’t influenced by the position of an engine or gearbox so you have this mono volume cube-like outer body jazzed up by unorthodox styling cues and design quirks.
The Tiago EV is based on the petrol versions platform so it is a rather standard two box design and even though it is quite a handsome car in this company it looks boring Cura.
5 comparison points between these two car
The mg comet EV gets LED headlamps whereas the Tata Tiago EV gets projector halogens the good news is that the throw and spread of the LED lights of the mg comet Ev is really really good much better than the Tata tiago’s what’s also nice is that this light bar here looks really attractive in the dark neither of these two electric cars have a front trunk or front boot also known as trunk of fruit.
The Tata Tiago EV’S is the more conventional Bonnet with a motor controller motor and various other electrical components the MG’s is really interesting it just has enough space to top up some useful fluids the motor controller is right down there and to access simple things like the 12 volt battery as an example you will need to dismantle a lot more parts so it’s a job best left at the service center.
Both these cars have plastic wheel caps the MG’s wheels are 12 inches that’s the size of a large pizza there are large badges on the mg comet EV giving away its green credentials whereas the Tata Tiago Ev on the other hand does things a bit more subtly as you can see boot space in the mg comet Ev is virtually in existent there’s probably enough place for a laptop bag at best whereas the Tata Tiago EV has a lot more accommodating boot in comparison.
What’s interesting is that neither of the two cars come with a spare tire but both of them come with a puncture repair kit. so the door on this particular test Mg Comet Ev doesn’t open the driver’s door so I need to get in from the passenger side now this being a bone electric car with no engine or gearbox and the icon console being repositioned.
It’s very easy to get in from the passenger side thanks to a completely flat floor so you can just get in and slide your way in the Interiors of the mg Comet are beautifully built with high quality touch and feel all around elevating this cabin’s premium caution further is the white color scheme on the inside the massive Greenhouse areas as well as the twin 10.25 inch screens and then when you look down at the 10.25 inch instrument cluster you’ll notice that.
The fonts are too small there’s a lot of wasted space over here and there’s also very little information in terms of tech or battery or EV related stuff so I mean this definitely could have been a better executed unit and then when you shift focus on the touchscreen infotainment system it definitely looks good but it does require a confident poke to operate and it isn’t devoid of software Gremlins either the screen froze and blanked out on several occasions when connected to Android auto and Apple carplay the other issue.
That I have a complaint with is the quality of speakers on offer now the competition like the Tata Tiago EV as well as the Citroen EC3 offer far better sound systems than the mg comet EV the front seats are pretty high set which is actually good for short drivers or new drivers to get an easy Judgment of the corners of this car personally I’d prefer the seat to be much lower however that’s not possible there’s no height adjustment and because the battery is placed down these seats are quite raised now.
Secondly the seat base has this quite odd hump which takes away from Thai support so all in all it’s okay for short Journeys but it’s not really comfortable for a longer Drive in terms of storage and practicality you have these large door cards which can hold a one liter bottle and then some you have cup holders in front of the side events so it can keep your beverages cool.
Then you have these luggage hooks out here which you can hang some groceries or something and there’s even a shelf out here where you can put your phone now the thing is there’s no Wireless pad and while cornering or while taking turns this phone is going to slide around it’s not going to stay protected uh storage areas could have been better executed for sure and there’s no closed glove compartment either and getting into the second row is very easy.
You just slide the seat forward and get in place and once you’re seated there what you will realize is that it is surprisingly spacious this tall boy design lends a lot of Headroom there’s decent enough knee room and these aircraft style Windows they let in a lot of light of course High support is limited.
Because you’re seated quite low but then two adults here for a short Journey absolutely no problem jumping into the Tata Tiago Ev after the mg Comet Ev feels like going back in time Everything feels just so old school and boring in comparison to the Comets modern and futuristic Interiors.
What I must say is that the textured materials and the build quality of the tiago’s cabin is pretty nice and the two-tone color scheme with these blue highlights certainly make it feel that much special Tata Tiago Ev is just too cluttered the infotainment system is just too dated and the seats not the best but they are definitely better than the Mg Comet Ev in terms of comfort it’s eight speaker Harman sound system
is simply mind-blowing eons ahead in terms of quality compared to the mg Comet and here’s a look at the other features these cars have to offer foreign to the back seat but once you’re in you’ll notice that space isn’t all that much more compared to the Mg Comet Ev Headroom is a bit tight knee room is pretty much at par and while there is a four-seater and this is a five-seater fitting three or will definitely be a tight squeeze.
So like the comment even this one is best for four one thing that I’d like to point out is that neither in the comet nor in the Tata Tiago Ev is the neck restraints are adjustable so in the event of a rear Collision whiplash injuries are quite likely this 17.3 kilowatt lfp battery is sitting beneath me the motor controller is in the front and the 42 horsepower electric motor is at the back powering.
The rear wheels so yes this is a rear wheel drive Electric but the thing is on account of its tiny footprint it’s 817 kilogram curve weight and the motors instantaneous responses you won’t complain about its performance really it just does fine to keep up with the flow of traffic of course they’re not going to win any traffic light Sprints but hey if you’re not buying this car for that are you to put its numbers into perspective in its spottiest setting this car is two seconds lower than the Tata Tiago Ev in a Sprint from 0 to 60.
And it does the zero to hundreds print in 24 seconds in sports mode not sure whether you can hear it but there is a lot of road noise filtering through in this cabin and I’m actually on one of mumbai’s smoothest roads that’s the Eastern freeway when the road noise isn’t too intrusive.
You’ll also hear the motor quite a bit now the good thing is that it doesn’t sound Buzzy or whiny in fact it sounds pretty Pleasant almost Musical of course this one isn’t even by Hans Zimmer like the ones in the BMW uniquely the instrument cluster also displays the motor speed and this one revs to 7600 RPM.
When this car is doing its top speed of 101 kilometers per hour now this one has three levels of regenerative braking uh there’s high medium and low in high it feels a bit too strong so I prefer the medium setting where it feels quite natural.
While slowing down and before you ask no one pedal driving isn’t possible as it doesn’t come to a complete halt by itself using regenerative braking now this car is Tiny and the steering is very light there’s good visibility it’s very easy to judge the edges of this car so getting a judgment for new drivers is very easy nipping in and out of traffic is a breeze and with parking AIDS such as reversing camera.
It’s very easy to park into tight spots what I must mention is that the real three-quarter visibility is not that great and you do have a blind spot uh thanks to the seat blocking your field of vision now compared to the Tata Tiago EV the brake bite isn’t as sharp and in a panic brick test from 80 kilometers per hour to a complete standstill this one resulted in a 34 meters distance.
Which is the longest among all the cars we’ve tested in recent times you’ll certainly appreciate the comment from behind the wheel not only due to its excellent frontal visibility and compact Dimensions but also due to its battery smooth and light steering its turning radius is just 4.2 meters so maneuverability is excellent on account of its tiny wheels and limited travel suspension.
It’s right can be a bit busy and due to its tall boy design body roll is in abundance so the Mg comet Ev is purely a point A to point B commuter and you need to keep that in mind at all times and not drive it in a sporty manner and getting into the Tata Tiago EV after the Mg comet Ev and what a difference it is now this is a more powerful motor it has a larger battery pack and the differences are quite evident and it’s not just the 0-100 time that
you’ve already seen it’s the ease with which the Tata Tiago Ev delivers its performance responses are certainly much stronger zipping in and out of traffic is far more effortless and this is definitely the live layer motor of the two and the best part is in its normal setting where torque is limited to 75 even then the Tata Tiago EV feels a lot quicker.
Than the comment but when you turn it into sport mode this one feels like a sports car in comparison now performance is one thing but even in the way the Tata Tiago EV arrives it drives like a much larger a much more mature it feels confident while changing directions it feels like it has the sharper Dynamics.
This is definitely the car which is better to drive not just in the city but also out on the highway like the comment you have three region levels with level one being the least and level three being the maximum you also have an option to turn off regen completely thus letting the car cost freely when you lift off the accelerator pedal.
But what most owners will be interested in is the efficiency the battery efficiency or the range rather and the numbers are on your screen right now foreign it must be noted that both cars were driven in their most efficient setting with regen set to maximum to maximize range so in other modes range is definitely gonna drop what you need to know is that the comet doesn’t support DC fast charging and only a limited number of public charging stations offer AC fast charging and even then it accepts charge only at 3.3 kilowatt.
So to recharge the battery from 20 to 80 percent it’ll take about four and a half hours with the Tiago you don’t have any such issue it does support BC fast charging so you can top up its battery from 20 to 80 in about an hour making it just that much more practical on longer drives so if you’re enamored by the mg Comet EV’S proposition you’ll be happy to know that this two-door Charming EV exhaust series appeal it is surprisingly spacious the Interiors are beautifully built and then there’s the fact that it
does 193 kilometers on a single charge but then when you factor in its pricing at 10 lakh Rupees you expect more features and then the fact that it has limited boot space and no DC fast charging it severely hampers its usability now in comparison to the common TV the Tata Tiago Ev definitely feels a lot more boring and a lot more dated but quite frankly this is the better car fundamentally it drives better.
It has the more practical Interiors and it also supports DC fast charging so you can occasionally take it on long drives so the Tata Tiago EV is definitely going to have the wider appeal it could be your first car and it could be your only EV but if it’s a secondary open Runabout that you’re looking for the mg comet EV does deserve a serious consideration.
